Don't waste space explaining how to do something that could have been mentioned once - at the start of the book. There were a lot of spots in the book where, instead of providing additional information, I was directed to purchase another book or two. Why isn't that information here? Especially when it pertains directly to the information being presented in the book. One other point. When the authors are explaining where to go and open, close or select items - there is scant use of alternative fonts.
This is really a big problem when there are several references in the same paragraph - but no change in font style to call your attention to a specific word - like 'menu' or 'ID'.
This book will more than likely whet your appetite for more information. However, just as the authors state themselves - you need to buy another book for that information. I've been getting paid to design and develop web sites since If you are just getting into web design and have settled on Dreamweaver as your IDE, then this is a superb book for you. I bought this book because 1 it was time for me to upgrade Dreamweaver I have the old DW8 version , and; 2 I wanted to get some basic insights into mobile and responsive web design.
This book got me up and running fast! I installed DWCS6 on a laptop I still have DW8 on my production machine , set up the first "site" and started cranking out the tutorials.
CHapters 1 - 13 are good for basic page layout, typography, html, and styling. Once I'd finish a tutorial I'd look at the source code to figure out what was going on. With the concepts I picked up about mobile and responsive design, I'm looking forward to reading and working through a more rigorous book on these subjects.
It has been 10 years since I last used Dreamweaver and even at that time my pages were very basic table format only. After buying CS 5. Read the reviews on this one and it seemed like a winner.
Sat down Saturday morning with the objective of being able to do a web site with photographs, video, hover buttons and a two column design. I'm a total klutz when it comes to reading instructions but this is the most foolproof book I've ever laid my eyes upon. Not once, I repeat, not once was I lost. Every direction was crystal clear and there was no searching for missing menu items, commands or anything else.
After just 4 hours I had completed chapters and done all the tutorials without a single error. Spent the next hour doing a web site using a fixed width of pixels and length of pixels. Used the methods in chapter 5 but decided chapter 6 was better for my purposes. By hour 6 my web site was complete and displayed perfectly in all browsers, looked positively gorgeous on the Ipad somehow formatted itself to fit precisely!
Using CSS classes is very handy, when I changed several items that all used the same rule, they all updated simultaneously. The only problem i had was that Dreamweaver suite has updated from CS6 to cc and I wish I had finished the book before I updated as a few things are different and makes the fun process of learning a little annoying. Not the fault of the book - highly recommend to anyone who wants to properly learn Dreamweaver CS6. Dreamweaver cc Classroom will be released next month so if you are planning to join the creative cloud you might want to wait for the newer edition. I have some experience with programming but am pretty new to web design and Dreamweaver.
This book consists of a series of clearly presented "Lessons" linked to exercise files from the cd. I think it would be helpful to know at least a little about html and css before starting out but the book does not make any assumptions. I really enjoyed doing the tutorial exercises and learnt a lot. The book does not cover everything Dreamweaver can do but I have been happily designing and creating basic websites since reading it.
It is well thought out and written by people who seem to understand how to teach well. A great introduction to Dreamweaver. Currently I'm studying this book. I attended a local dreamweaver course before and I wanted to further my study. This book has met my expectations. The books comes with a DVD which has sections including the exercises and the videos that you can watch before each lesson. Not only I was able to refresh my knowledge about the program but also it covers many details that I had no idea.

The book answers all sorts of questions a web designer asks when learning to design and develop Web pages. This book has more hands-on-learning opportunities and more explanations about what each element on a Web page is used for. The clear definitions and simple presentation approach make it easy to understand each lesson.
This book also makes it easier for the reader to understand what he or she understands and what he or she needs to ask help with. The book answers so many questions that many teachers skip over or do not consider important for a beginning web designer to know. It presents Web pages and Web sites in a logical framework that makes learning easier and much faster. Dreamweaver the Missing Manual the previous class textbook, was heavy on technicalities and functions that were beyond beginning students.
After reading just two chapters of Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Complete, I have a solid understanding of the planning, structure and functionality of dynamic web pages. Many questions and misconceptions I had with the previous book were cleared up in the first 30 pages of this book.
